Meetings : The Denver X-ray Conference (DXC 2008)
DXC 2008 - 4 - 8 August 2008 - Denver Marriott Tech Center Hotel, Denver, Colorado - Joint meeting with the Eighth International Conference on Residual Stresses
[Download the Program in PDF format by CLICKING HERE] Denver CO, USA -- The technical program of the DXC is created and monitored by the Denver X-ray Conference Organizing Committee (DXCOC).
The Committee consists of specialists from various fields of X-ray analysis, each of whom contributes his or her expertise to the technical program.
The DXCOC meets annually to prepare the technical program, regulate the guidelines for sessions and workshops, and establish future goals of the conference.
The Committee also dedicates itself to ensuring the integrity of the meeting.
While exhibits have become a large attraction, the DXCOC maintains a commercial-free, vendor-neutral technical program.

Publications : Ultrasonic Flowmeters (Part 3 of 4)
Excerpted from The Consumer Guide to Ultrasonic and Correlation Flowmeters By David W. Spitzer Now Online.
Chestnut Ridge, NY, USA -- In the Spitzer & Boyes LLC E-Zine for July 2008 the article begins: "Transit time ultrasonic flowmeters (sometimes called time-of-flight ultrasonic flowmeters) alternately transmit ultrasonic energy into the fluid in the direction and against the direction of flow". "At no flow conditions, it takes the same amount of time to travel upstream and downstream between the sensors. Under flowing conditions, the upstream ultrasonic energy will travel slower and take more time than energy traveling downstream. When the fluid moves faster, there is an increase in the difference between the times required for the ultrasonic energy to travel upstream and downstream between the sensors."
" The electronic transmitter measures the upstream and downstream times to determine the flow rate. The following equation expresses this relationship when the transmitting and receiving devices are flush with the pipe wall".

Publications : Reference guide for optimal thermal microplate sealing
Melbourn, UK & Menlo Park CA, USA -- Velocity11 (Menlo Park, CA), an Agilent Technologies company, and leading supplier of automation solutions has announced the release of a new and highly informative publication - `Reference guide for optimal thermal microplate sealing'.As an increasing number of laboratories look to gain the productivity benefits of storing samples in automation-friendly multi-well microplates the need to optimise the plate sealing process to safeguard sample integrity has become paramount.
Achieving an optimal microplate seal depends on many factors including microplate design, construction material, batch-to-batch plate production consistency, microplate features, sealing parameters and the type of seal used.
The new 16-page guide includes a microplate sealing tips section, information on how to optimise sealing parameters when thermal sealing, a comprehensive FAQ section and an electronic PDF form designed to facilitate the capture of key information helpful when requesting technical/applications support.
